Soe Naing

(b. 1961, Myanmar)

Soe Naing spent his college life in Hlaing campus for two years, where his major was zoology. He drew inspiration from his major, and included pictures of fish, frogs, rabbits and other animals in his works. It was a prominent feature in his works presented in subtle forms. There is also another aspect of his paintings which speaks of Myanmar's sensibility and political issues, without leaving out positive traits of the country in it.
When it comes to techniques, his painting strokes are rapid but strong. Despite it, he still manages to create an external ambience. To the audience it might come of as 'lightly done'.
An artist of his time, Soe Naing's paintings have been put in comparison with famous artists such as 'Arshile Gorky', Willem De Kooning' and 'Jackson Pollock'.
