Jessie Lim, the first woman to hold a one-person exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore in 1988, invites ceramic lovers to celebrate this Christmas with her at Art-2 gallery. Focusing on sculptural ceramics for the last two years, Lim, who has been practising pottery full-time since 1986, is back to making utilitarian wares again this year, with some exciting new developments. This year-end programme will feature over one hundred bowls, vases, boxes, etc., by the potter.

Firstly, Jessie Lim has been experimenting with varying thickness. Pieces with very thin and delicate walls to heavy and boldly modelled ones will be shown. She has also experimented successfully with white and dark clays by embedding one within the other, hence creating colour and variation as a result of the different clay giving different responses to the same glaze. Lastly, also on display is Lim’s bright and colourful ‘Espana’ series, reminding one of Spanish Flamenco dancers.

These original art pieces with affordable pricing will make tasteful gifts for this festive season and as Lim mentioned, ‘these pieces are quite varied and there is something for everyone’.
