Biography

Born 1967, Yangon, Myanmar.

One of Myanmar’s few multidisciplinary young artists; Nay Myo Say is confident painting with oil, acrylic, watercolour, gouache or charcoal. His painting entitled - Three Dancers I, was selected as one of the five winners representing Myanmar at the 2002 ASEAN Art Awards. His works have been exhibited in Myanmar, Singapore, London and Indonesia.

Nay Myo Say is a graduate from the Institute of Medicine in Yangon but he chose to pursue a profession as an artist instead. In 1996, he studied under U Lun Gywe, a renowned impressionist master in Myanmar. He has exhibited in the Philip Morris ASEAN Art Awards, 2000.

 

While he began his career as a doctor, he spent a few years as a popular singer. He was the founder of an artist cooperative, “Mr Guitar”, an artist café with an exhibition gallery, probably one of the most hip joint in Yangon.

 

Nay Myo Say has done paintings of still life and nudes. He often paints on location with fellow artist Win Pe Myint. “Dancer” series is his creation using the popular Myanmar icon, and he has managed to capture the movement and essence of the dancers onto the canvas.
